GIVING THANKS – an editorial from Molly:

We are full of gratitude for our customers here at Sea Change and I’d love to take a moment to tell you about it.

When the store opened July 2014 we were 1st on the peninsula and 7th in the state.  The following years have been an epic journey, going through dozens and dozens of growers and processors, keeping only those who provide good value and consistent quality.  Friendly, helpful budtenders offering customers an incredible, unique array of products that is unparalleled in our area has been our goal from Day 1.

Your continued support is humbling and deeply appreciated in a time when Jefferson County now has 6 other cannabis stores.  Daily folks will tell us they pass by more convenient stores because they appreciate our knowledge, grand selection and pricing and they want to support the qualities we bring.  Thank you for going the extra mile!

If you are inclined to vote with your dollars (to support companies you appreciate or to boycott ones with whom you do not agree) I want to tell you what spending money at Sea Change means.

Because our store’s board believes so strongly in community development we have been able to use profits for charitable giving and to help our Local 101 neighbors get started/infused (Discovery Bay Village Store, Disco Bay Detour, HiYu Audio).  This resulted in a seasonal employment high (in Summer) of 27 people in a spot at the bottom of the bay that was pretty barren 3 years ago.

Fun Fact: This month Sea Change will cross $1 million in total taxes collected since opening, of which Jefferson County has received over $100k this year alone in sales taxes.

Your impact: Spending money locally, on local product (with local producers paying local employees), at a locally owned and operated store (also paying local employees) is an excellent way to keep more money in our area and improve quality of life.  Known as the “Local Multiplier Effect” in economics, dollars enter a local economy and will stay there until they are spent on items outside our region or through chain stores who take the profit back to corporate headquarters.

I am proud of our store and what we offer, genuinely fond of every employee we have and excited to go to work every day because I love what we do.  I thought the novelty would have worn off for me after almost 2.5 years (like the mere 1 hour of working in a bakery that caused me to lose my donut lust) but this is more than just being a drug dealer: this is a community! We guide people as they become brave enough to try cannabis for a variety of reasons, we see regulars and they let into their life stories, we provide vital medical cannabis to folks in need of relief, and we are just straight up helping adults have a good time.  It feels very righteous and your patronage is the icing on the cake.

Thank you for supporting us, and in turn supporting so much more.  -Molly
