It’s time for the weed report!

This past week we got a whole bunch of joints from Liberty Reach and many edibles from Verdelux…  but the show stopper, in my opinion, is the Banana Breath bud from Surefire.  It is the stinkiest bud since Wedding Cake and Chem Dawg, and sticky, too!  Don’t open it until you get home, this one reeks to high heaven and is not compatible with public transit or avoiding an open container ticket. IT STANKS.  Also got the Papaya which is lovely and fruity, the polar opposite of the super rank Banana Breath.

New event! Wilderness Wednesdays at the Detour – Every Wednesday starting in April, 6-9pm
A Collaboration between Disco Bay Outdoor Exchange and Disco Bay Detour

Join former wilderness ranger and current mountain guide Erin Reading for an evening focused on wilderness/outdoor adventure. The intention is to share collective knowledge with one another, build webs of connection among various outdoor communities, and to have fun delighting in one another’s adventure planning, stories, and questions. Everyone is encouraged to bring maps (yay!), trip planning ideas and resources, gear questions, pictures, or whatever else you feel inspired to ask or share.

While the foundation of Wilderness Wednesdays is simply a time to gather informally to pour over maps and share stories over drinks, some evenings will also feature a wilderness related presentation or workshop, with topics ranging from surfing, kayaking, backcountry skiing, and mountaineering to backpacking, flyfishing, local botany, and wild foraging. If you have a presentation or workshop you would like to share for one of the weeks (30-45min long presentation, plus some Q & A time) or a topic you would like to hear someone else speak about, contact Erin at erin.b.reading@gmail.com.

***Barring rain, we will have a fire going outside – feel free to bring something to grill on the schwenker or a snack/potluck dish to share if so inspired.***

4/10: ONP: The Shipwreck Coast & Point of the Arches with Matt Jordan – 7pm start
This 33+ mile coastal backpacking trip from Rialto Beach to Shi Shi Trailhead features new discoveries around every corner. Learn more about multi-day coastal hiking and make some friends along the way during this relaxed slideshow presentation focused on a recent trip from late March 2019.

4/17: Spring Backcountry Skiing in the Olympics with Marc Downing – 7pm start
You might think ski season has passed, but corn skiing is just beginning in the Olympics! Join dedicated Port Townsend backcountry skier Marc Downing for the latest and greatest spots to get some late-season turns!

4/23: Spring Foraging on the Peninsula with Aragorn Deane and Maya Moon – 7:30pm start
Focusing on the bounty of the spring in the northwest, learn the basics of foraging and how to identify a variety of wild edibles. We will talk about edibility, medicinal use, and bring in live plants for you to touch, taste, and smell!

Thursdays are the Acoustic Open Mic Jam – Join Jillian as she hosts Open Mic/Jams in the Detour’s state of the art acoustic venue.  Plugged or unplugged, bring your instruments, original songs, renditions of classic ones, or works in progress.  Free, 7-9pm  ***OPEN MIC CANCELED THIS WEEK FOR THE MONTIJO SHOW***

Thursday 4/4 – Ricky Montijo – Ricky Montijo is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Montijo plays an eclectic mix of soul, rock, Latin, blues, reggae, pop, and world music and is known for his vocals, mastery of the guitar, live performances, advanced looping, and philanthropy. He has released two studio albums, numerous singles, and has toured nationally. Ricky has shared stages with War, Jefferson Starship, Little River Band, Los Lonely Boys, Ozomatli, Coco Montoya, Robby Krieger, and other internationally and nationally touring headliners.  8-10pm, free show

Saturday 4/6 – The Retrofiers – Enjoy new twists on old classics with Port Townsend’s quirky musical duo. 8-10pm, free show
